I don't read many SEO forums because there are so many people who ask the same questions over and over. They are too lazy to read through the discussions and find the answers to their usually very simple questions. I understand when your Web site doesn't show up that you feel a sense of urgency. But that is no reason to ignore all the threads and just ask one question. People drop links to their sites and do other stupid things. They would be treated better if they behaved.

I find that SEO services are hard to judge because so many bad ideas are repeated by SEOs. They don't know how to look at facts and data logically. They just congratulate each other on speaking at conferences. When I was learning how to provide SEO services I had to work very hard to test all the ideas I found in SEO forums and blogs. Most of them were just really stupid. I even saw some sites get banned. Those were not happy days.

Now I know better than to trust my Web sites to the crazy ideas that SEO specialists share in forums. Maybe they are trying to mislead people so they can get more business but I think that is a bad idea. Why should I trust all these experts if they don't share good information? I found one SEO blog that repeats some of the news you find on other blogs but Aaron Pratt challenges a lot of the ideas the SEO community shares.

When you're looking for useful SEO ideas, you have to search really hard to find a good SEO blog that doesn't repeat all the crap ideas other SEOs cling to. I think that search engine optimization has to be learned carefully. And most people probably become good enough at it to get by. But the real SEO consulting experts don't just repeat silly nonsense. They test new ideas.

Someone once told me that the best SEOs take risks. People who don't take risks, but who just do whatever the SEO forums and blogs say to do, have no real SEO skills to speak of. They are like parrots who repeat what they hear but don't really understand anything. When SEO consulting is important, you should pick only the very best people. That is why when I look at SEO forums I make sure the people who give advice don't just repeat the same old ideas that have been shared for years.
